Personal Narrative: Collision Course

When I was 6 years old, I went to my friend’s house. The day seemed like any other, as we were just playing games, but then one thing happened that changed how I lived for months after. There was no way to know that it would happen at all.
The traumatic event happened due to extreme boredom. I looked up at the clock and saw that it was ticking exceptionally slow. My friend came up with the idea of us going and playing in the playground near his home. After we played for what was about ten minutes, I noticed the tennis court for the first time. My friend easily glided over the tennis net. He turned around and dared me to do the same. I took a deep breath, ran step after step, and launched into the air. I thought I had made it to the other side, but the net though otherwise.
This was when the life changing event happened. The net threw me backwards and my head struck the ground with an enormous amount of force. Black and blue dots scattered across everything in sight. Screams of pain exploded out of my mouth. Tears began gushing down my face. My friend ran to get help. Seconds later, my mom came running out and helped me go inside. An ice pack was placed on my head and I was put in the car, the doctor’s office was the destination. The doctor made me have an X-Ray and saw that my skull had a fracture. A hand reached up to touch my head and I was horrified to find that there was a spot that was squishier than a sponge.
The next few months of my life were very different. The sense of smell, I barely had before was not working correctly at all. There were smells, like apples, that I thought was something else. Even with all that had happened; I managed to make a full recovery. Overall, fracturing my skull was a very frightening event and I was terrified that it would affect the rest of my life.

Tomorow is The First Day Of School

This summer went by too fast, it is impossible to recall everything that I did. Now, it is already time to go back to school. This pretty much sucks. I mean, these two months that they give us for break go way to fast. One day it is the beginning of summer and the next day is the end. This summer should have never ended.

Top 5 Games I Want

1. FIFA 12 (Own)

This game will be so much better than FIFA 11, which I did not like that much. I have a countdown going on in my head for this game. The Player Impact Engine is probably the best innovation in the FIFA series.

2. Assassins Creed: Revelations (Own)

As soon as I finished Brotherhood I wanted to know what happened to Desmond. This game is one that I must play. There have been many new additions to the game that were not in Brotherhood. The hook blade and bombs are what I think are the coolest.

3. Modern Warfare 3 (Borrowed)

I cant wait to continue Captain Price and Soap's story. Also, I want to play the multiplayer mode in this game, hopefully it is better than Black Ops.

4. Mass Effect 3 (Haven't Played)

I have never played Mass Effect, but these games look so good. I can't wait to play this game and the others in the series. The Kinect integration is pretty sick too

5. Batman: Arkham City (Haven't Played)

This game looks epic. The graphics look so good and I just want to beat up some bad guys as Batman.

Grand Theft Auto IV REVIEW

Grand Theft Auto 4 was the most anticipated game on a seventh generation console at its release. The hype was met with one of the best sandbox games ever created. This game is an amazing game that keeps you playing for hours at a time.

Playing as Niko Bellic you are an immigrant to the fictional Liberty City (based off of New York City). Your cousin lured you here with tales of riches and mansions. None of it is true. You must protect your cousin from loan sharks, mobsters, and the mafia. You are able to do many jobs for them and earn lots of money. The plot involves over 100 missions for you to complete, from street races to robbing banks.

The gameplay itself is amazing. The graphics are pretty good and the fact that it is a sandbox makes it even better. You can do what you want, when you want. There is no linear pattern that says that you have to do the missions in order. There are also many things to do in Liberty City. You can go eat at a resturant, or drive a speedboat. Jacking a car is what I spend most of my time doing. In this game, you can do almost anything.

The multiplayer function is pretty good and something of its own. There is not much to say besides it is something that you should check out for sure.

Overall, this is one of the best game I have ever played in my entire life. The gameplay is fantastic and the single player is one of the best I have played. The multiplayer is something to definately check out if you play this game. The graphics are pretty good for this game, especially the shots of the city from the air. If you are allowed to play this game, I would definately buy this game.

Poem about Alligators

Gators have a bone crushing bite

Eyes on the side of their head give great sight

Live 30 to 50 years in the wild

After 8 to 10 years, they have a child

Fish is their favorite food

70-80 teeth give them a good mood

Most live in fresh water

And the temperature there is always hotter

They live in the coast of the Atlantic

Always calm, they are never frantic

Meat is what they eat

They do not eat beets

Gators get in a lot of fights

Being 1000 pounds give them a lot of might

They live in a swamp

Where they like to chomp

Basketball Story

The ball is lifted into the air. Two tall guys jump for it. The ball ends up in Joe’s hands. Joe dribbles the ball down the court. Now he sees his teammate open. The pass is made and a shot is scored. Joe’s team is in the lead.

Joe and his fellow teammates are playing basketball. This game is for the championship of their league. Before this game, Joe’s team played in many playoff games to get here. It was a tough battle for his team to get to this point in the season.

Now Joe must sprint back to play defense. The player he is guarding gets the ball. He drives in and Joe has no choice but to foul him. The player makes both of his free throws and the game is tied. Joe’s coach calls a timeout.

The coach yells a play at them. Everyone understands their role. The huddle is broken and everyone gets ready for the inbounds pass. As the ball enters the air, it is intercepted by the other team! A quick layup is scored and Joe’s team is losing.

It is the 4th quarter and there are 4 seconds left on the clock. Joe takes the ball. Everything seems like it is in slow motion. 3, 2, 1… Joe releases a beautiful, arcing, 3 point shot. Everyone is quiet, and then a swoosh is heard. Suddenly the whole arena erupts with joyful cheers. Joe’s team has won the game! It’s all over as Joe’s team has won the basketball league for this season!

My Fable Story

An ugly dog is limping on a path. One of the dog’s legs has been ripped off of its body, and only bone is remaining. The dog has patches of fur missing from its body. Many scars cover the dogs face. Only one ear is left on the dog’s head. When it walks by, other animals freeze, terrified with fear. The dog meets an enormous mouse and asks for some food. The gigantic mouse towers over the dog. It glances at the dog once, laughs, and says, “I don’t help ugly animals.” The dog asks for food once again. Now, the mouse leaves without a word. The dog has no choice but to keep limping on the path.

The next day, the dog returns to the same path. The dog meets another mouse. The dog asks this mouse for food. The mouse thinks about it and says, “All right, I will give you some food. The dog accepts the food and says thank you. The mouse replies with you’re welcome.

As the dog is leaving, it gives riches to the mouse. The shocked mouse is at a loss for words. Finally, it manages to squeak a thank you. The dog smiles and says you are welcome. Now the dog turns to leave and walks away on the path.

The other mouse sees all of this. Now it scrambles to give food to the dog. The dog accepts this mouse’s food as well. The dog says thank you, and is turning to leave when, the mouse says, “Aren’t you going to give me some gold?” The dog turns around and the look on its face tells the mouse that, it is not getting any gold from this dog.

The disappointed mouse turns to leave. The dog transforms into a tall person. The ugly dog was the king of the land! The king is surrounded by trumpeters, gold, chariots, and many noble animals, including a lion. The mouse is shocked and its mouth is hanging wide open. The dog explains why he did not give it any gold. “Since I was an ugly dog, you did not give me any food, and passed me over. But once you saw me give gold to the other caring mouse, you scrambled to help me. You disgust me.” Now the king turns the mouse into a donkey and tells it to run forever, without stopping. Moral: Don’t judge a book by its cover.

Leonardo Da Vinci

The year is 1487, he has done it. Leonardo has drawn something that he has been trying to make for years. Now the vitruvian man is no longer an idea in his head, but one that is finally on paper.

Leonardo Da Vinci was born on April 15, 1452 in Florence, Italy and died at the ripe age of 67 on May 2, 1519. Da Vinci is known today as the archetype Renaissance man. These types of people were usually defined as people who had very high curiosity but were limited by the technology of the era.

For example, Leonardo drew an image of what he called a “flying machine” but due to the technology of that era, it was never able to come to life. Tanks were another idea that Leonardo thought of but due to the limits of the time, that too never came to life. I believe that if Leonardo had lived now, many of the ideas that he had come up with, would be reality as many of them are already. Some other things that he also had ideas of were hang gliders, helicopters, solar power and a calculator.

Paintings were also another famous thing that Leonardo Da Vinci was known for. One of the most famous paintings of all time was the Mona Lisa. Another famous painting that he made was The Last Supper.

As an engineer he also came up with some new shapes. A rhombicubotahedron one of those shapes. Another thing that fascinated Leonardo was the phenomenon of flight, so he decided to invent many machines that were supposed to fly, but as expected pretty much all of them did not fare well. Musical instruments and bridges were also other things that Leonardo invented. A bridge that he drew the blueprint of was built over 500 years later in Istanbul, Turkey and it was a success.

Leonardo had a very interesting personal life. Considered to love life, he was a vegetarian and bought caged birds and released them soon after. Many people of the time thought of him as a very generous person.

As you can see, Leonardo Da Vinci was a very interesting man. Known as one of the greatest inventers of all time, he had an extremely large curiosity. I hope that this has informed you about the man of his era, Leonardo Da Vinci.

Malcolm X

“By any means necessary.”

These were the most famous words uttered by the man Malcolm Little, or as we know him, Malcolm X.

Malcolm Little was born in Omaha, Nebraska, on May 19, 1925. His father, Earl Little was a Baptist lay speaker. Earl was a local leader of the UNIA (Universal Negro Improvement Association). After Malcolm’s family received threats, they swiftly relocated to Milwaukie, Wisconsin, and then to Lansing, Michigan. In 1929, their home in Lansing was burned down; many thought it to be the Black Legion, a white supremacist group. On September 28, 1931, Earl Little was killed by what was supposedly an “accident”. Malcolm later remembered thinking “How could my father bash his head, and then go under a streetcar.” Even though, Earl Little had two life insurance policies, his family only received a small amount of money. In 1938, Malcolm’s mother, Louise Little, was considered legally insane and put in a state mental hospital. Malcolm was a very intelligent student in school, but dropped out after being told by a teacher that being a lawyer was no job for a Negro. Malcolm then moved to Boston in 1941, to live with his sister Ella Little Collins.

Malcolm lived in a dominantly black neighborhood, and was drawn to the cultural and social life of the place. During his time in Boston, he worked at New Haven Railroad. Between 1943 and 1946, Malcolm drifted between jobs and homes. In 1943, the US Military ordered Little to apply for military service. Malcolm put on a display to avoid being drafted and told the recruiting officer that he would “steal us some guns, and kill some crackers.” He was classified as “mentally impaired for military service” and was issued a 4-F card, relieving him of his military service. In 1945, Little would return to Boston to start robbing the homes of wealthy white families and was arrested while trying to repair a watch that was reported as stolen at all jewelry stores. Malcolm was put into prison for 8 to 10 years. “Satan” was a name used frequently for Malcolm during his tenure in prison. In 1948, Malcolm’s brother told him about the Nation of Islam. Malcolm wrote a letter to the leader of the Nation of Islam, Elijah Muhammad. Muhammad told him to atone for all of his crimes and bow down to Allah. It took Malcolm a week to bend his knees. But he finally became a member of the Nation of Islam. In 1952, Malcolm was released from prison.

Malcolm now decided to meet with Elijah Muhammad in Chicago, Illinois. During that time, Malcolm changed his surname to X as many members of Nation of Islam did. X gave him a true name, not the one that his forebears were forced upon. Malcolm, while working with the Nation, preached that black people were more powerful than whites and that the demise of the white race was imminent. He also proposed a complete separate country for black people. Civil rights organizations described X and the Nation of Islam as extremists. But on March 8, 1964, Malcolm X decided to leave the Nation of Islam and become a Sunni Muslim. Malcolm then decided to leave for his pilgrimage to Mecca and was questioned as to whether he was an authentic Muslim. Separated for 20 hours from his group, he was finally allowed to continue on his pilgrimage. Malcolm was then a guest of the state and after finishing hajji, stayed with Prince Faisal. Malcolm thought that Islam was the way in which racial problems could be overcome.

The year of 1965 was to be Malcolm’s last. On February 21, 1965, Malcolm was shot with 3 bullets while at Manhattan’s Audubon Ballroom. The men who were accused of this crime were Talmadge Hayer, Norman 3X Butler, and Thomas 15X Johnson. Malcolm was rushed to the nearest hospital but was pronounced dead at 3:30 PM. Over 14,000 people came to the funeral of Malcolm X.

Malcolm X, was one of the most influential people of the 20th century, his controversial ways of trying to reach civil rights were achieved, but many years after his death. There are many words that would describe Malcolm X, but the ones that fit the most were:

“By any means necessary.”

Ugly Dude

A person is standing not too far away. The person turns around, and you see that it is not a person, but a hideous, thing. It is hard to conceal your astonishment. This is the ugliest thing you have ever seen.

Its face has a greenish hue that is the first thing that jumps out at you. There are hornlike things on its forehead and they are a waxy, whitish color. Next as you look at its nose, you see that is crooked and is hooked at the end. The things hair is a whole other story. It is a wild, frizzy, mop like thing just sitting on its head.

Now, it opens its mouth. Jagged, chipped, and yellow is the teeth. One tooth has a crushed and slimy bug on it. Next, as you gaze towards its hooked ears, you see that there are insects crawling out of them. One of the ears is crooked and has a fiery red color to it.

You are frozen to the spot, terrified as an ooze of liquid begins sliding down its face. As you stare into its eyes, they begin to turn a greenish yellow. A scream comes out of your mouth as you run away.

The thing is fresh in your memory, however, and you can still see the insects, ooze, and the greenish yellow eyes. It is hard to get the thing out of your head. That was the ugliest thing you have ever seen in your life.

Inception Review

Inception is one of my favorite movies of all time. It is about a man who works as a dream infiltrator. He has been hired to do the impossible, perform inception. The movie has amazing special effects. The plot was very well developed, with many twists and turns. Even with that, the plot was very interesting. The characters of this movie had the right personalities to make this movie what it is.

The plot of Inception was well developed. It could keep your eyes glued to the screen for the entire duration of the movie. One second you are in a zero-gravity hotel room, and the next on a mountain covered in snow. It was an interesting plot with the topic of dream infiltration as the centerpiece, which is not that believable. Because it was not believable, it was perfect for this film.

The characters of this film were essential. Every single person had a significant role in the plot. Whether it is the Japanese billionaire or the heir to an energy company, they were all important. The protagonist is performing this last job to get back to his kids. The characters were just right for the topic of this movie, and as the plot went on, it explained what each person’s role was. The acting of this film was great, and that really helped the characters of the movie to come to life.

Inception’s special effects were incredible. The mind-bending effects are why this film was well known. Every single one was important to the film and was well placed and at the right time. One example would be the zero-gravity hotel scene. It had to do with the plot because the characters were in a van falling into a river. They were not realistic, but that is because the plot of the film is not realistic. This film had the best special effects I have ever seen in a movie.

The film Inception was a hit, both financially and critically. This mind-bending film was incredible to watch. The film made me want to jump into someone else’s dreams and do what the characters did in the film. This is one movie that I would recommend watching.

4.5/5

London Riots

Nostrils burned from the smell of burning rubber and gasoline. Tears fell as cars, homes, and buildings were all ablaze. The sounds of gunfire are heard as masked people engage in violent fights with the police. People fall to the ground. Smoke and rubble is everywhere. London is in flames.

The 2011 London riots began with the shooting of Mark Duggan, who was involved in an altercation with the police. Mark pulled out a gun when stopped by the police and was instantly shot. The police thought he was part of a gang. Mark’s family and friends had a peaceful protest and this is where it got out of control. Some criminals took advantage of the protest and started riots while pretending to protest the shooting.

Looters begin breaking into businesses and stealing everything. Virtually everything is set on fire and no place is safe. Businesses windows are smashed and the interiors trashed. Debris, torched cars, and looters and criminals filled the streets of London. People did not leave their homes for fear of being attacked. Everywhere people were being mugged and attacked by criminals. Violent confrontations erupted between rioters, looters, the police, and vigilantes. A few brave people who decided to defend their own communities from rioters. Many used baseball bats to protect their family and homes. However, the police were outnumbered by the rioters and began to retreat.

Next, the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom speaks to the public and puts thousands of police officers on the streets to protect businesses and people. The fears of the public begin to ease, but the fear still exists. Most people still stay in their homes and have baseball bats near the door. The extra police officers begin to battle back against the rioters. The fights between them are now all won by the police. Over 3100 arrests are made by the officers and 1100 are with a trial. The riots finally begin to die down in London. However, that does not begin to say the emotional and physical problems that these riots have given London. People’s businesses are ruined; homes are gone, belongings stolen. The problem is more than just monetary value.

These riots have taken their toll on not just London, but the whole country. Everywhere in England there were riots. It will take a long time for England to recover from the devastating effects of the riots. The streets of London are only beginning to clean up. There is still much debris that fills them. The whole country will face the repercussions of the riots for the months and even years to come. It will take a long time to repair all the businesses and homes damaged by the criminals.

Call of Duty: Black Ops REVIEW

Black Ops… everyone plays it, but not many people are good. This is an epidemic that is sweeping the world near its feet. Most people I know, with a few exceptions can even get a kill to death ratio of 1 or higher. I know I have a 0.45, which is terrible, in Modern Warfare 2. There is only one person that I actually can remember that is higher than a kill to death ratio of 1. This person has a kill to death ratio of 15.27 in Modern Warfare 2 which is mind blowing.

But anyways, let me get back to the main topic. Again, if you already forgot that main topic is Call of Duty: Black Ops. I do not own Call of Duty: Black Ops. I have been trying to borrow it from someone that I know; I will not point fingers at anyone. But this “reliable” source has been “forgetting to bring it”. Next time I see him, I will demand that he gives me back the game that he borrowed from me which is Assassin’s Creed 2.

I am completely off topic again. Probably the best map in Black Ops is firing range, for domination, or launch for team deathmatch. Yes I know that there are many mixed opinions about both these maps, but you have to admit that they are both really good maps.

However, on the other hand the map known as Jungle is probably the worst map in the game. There must be unanimous agreement on the fact that the map Jungle is terrible, it is literally impossible to get a kill, due to the fact that there are way too many camping spots in this map.

A medium good map is probably WMD. This is in part due to the fact that there are only one or two sniping spots in this whole entire map. Another medium good map is also Grid. The map itself was brilliantly created. This is probably the first and only time that I will say this but “hats off to the maker of this map”.

But the game play in this map is to say “like a needle in a haystack.” It is quite hard to get a grasp of the map.

The actual game play is, on a scale of One through Ten, probably in my opinion, an 8.5. The idea of COD points is a great idea. But a problem with it is you can never actually tell how many points you will be receiving after a finished match. For example, if you get a 1200 score, you might get only 700 cod points one time, but another time you might get 2000. It just is too hard to actually figure out how many you might get directly after the game finishes.

The game of Call of Duty: Black Ops, in my mind was a little bit rushed, if they had waited two to three months, they might have been able to get, maybe a perfect score from me.

Assassins Creed:Brotherhood REVIEW

Assassins Creed Brotherhood is a game that follows the lead that Assassins Creed 2 gave it. The game play is relatively similar between the two games. Assassins Creed Brotherhood’s story is shorter but, that is because of the time spent on the multiplayer. The story itself is a good story although the previous installment had a better story. The multiplayer is probably the most fun I have ever had since Modern Warfare: 2. The multiplayer is completely unique from all the other games, and that is why it is about one of the best. Throughout this review I will be pointing out the highs and lows of Assassins Creed Brotherhood.

First off, let’s start out with the game play. Although there are a few differences in this game with AC2, the game play is pretty much the same. The fight system has been changed, as you do not have to counter-kill everyone. After getting one kill, if you can attack fast enough, you can initiate a kill streak, which makes long battles a whole lot shorter. Another addition to this game is Borgia towers. When you destroy one, the shops in that district become open for purchase. An addition to this game is being able to have Assassin recruits. Along with being able to buy shops, when you burn a Borgia tower, you can recruit one more citizen. Then during a battle or when you need to assassinate someone, a press of a button will kill the people in the area, so the more you have the easier battles become.

*SPOILER* after the attack on Monteriggioni, you lose pretty much everything, including the ability to climb leap. Later in the game, you can buy gloves which allow you to do it once more. *SPOILER END*

The multiplayer is one of a kind. Unlike Black Ops, you actually do not shoot a gun in first person. In the multiplayer you are pretty much assigned a target to kill, while someone is assigned you. The way to win is to be patient and to kill without the target knowing you are there, which gives you max points, rather than just running up and killing him or her. As you level up you earn more perks such as disguises. During chases, there are chase breakers, which pretty much give you an escape.

There are a few glitches in this game. Sometimes there is overlapping audio, but that is very rare. However, during one mission, when I decided to swim even though it says not to swim for full synch, I fell straight through the water and could see Rome from underneath it. Most of the time the game runs flawless, other than those two glitches, which are extremely rare.

The graphics in this game are much better than the ones in AC2. The city of Rome was advertised to be 5 times bigger than Florence in AC2, and it is, if not bigger. Although you only get to stay in Rome, and for one mission you get to go to Viana, Spain, it is worth it. The viewpoints in this game are breathtaking when you synchronize them.

If you are a fan of Assassins Creed 2, then this game is 100% for you, but if you are not a fan of the series at all, then you should still get anyways because it is one of the best games of all time.

Overall, the follow-up to one of the best games ever, is, well, one of the best games ever on its own. Everything in this game is top-notch. Ubisoft has come out with another great game. Looking forward to Assassins Creed 3!

Game play: 9 Graphics: 9.25 Multiplayer: 9 Single player: 8.5 Overall: 8.9

Power

The world is controlled by many different corporations. They influence pretty much everything. They even influence the important decisions that affect everyone. Power is one thing that apparently money can buy in the world that we live in today. There are many different instances that money is used to gain power in decisions that you would like to change the outcome. In many third-world countries, bribes are used to completely change decisions. Although corporations may not be behind that, it is actually happening. Many governments are corrupted.

Now, in the United States, this does not happen, as much. Remember how in 2008, that Blagojevich guy in Illinois tried to sell the senate seat, left by our president, Barack Obama. Well, that shows how mature our country is. How can you even possibly think that you can sell a spot in the senate, which just proves that people in our country can be very, very stupid at important times.

Back to the corporations now, did you know that McDonalds is “working” with the United States Government, to try to stop obesity? They are now trying to have their food become healthier. That’s just like trying to teach an old dog new tricks, it is not going to work. This is just free advertising for McDonalds. This again shows how much power that corporations have. I personally think that this is very stupid. The government needs to know when it is being used, and seeing as this is our government, being slow, how do you think that they will react to important things, such as the War on Terror, or other things?

Another instance is when I turned on the TV and saw that Taco
Bell had sponsored, the NBA Skills Challenge for 2011. This is another reason that people are stupid. Taco Bell is a fast food restaurant. The skills challenge is about speed and game. This is trying to say that eating Taco Bell will make you as good at basketball as NBA players. Trust me, eating Taco Bell will not make you any better at basketball, in fact, it will probably make you even worse at basketball then before you ate their crappy food, which by the way does not even taste that good at all. Taco Bell food has so much bad fat, that it might turn you into a couch potato, watching the next years Skill Challenge.

Corporations can be as deadly as a noob with a rocket launcher in Call of Duty. They have so much power in the world, and that is something that we need to change, one person at a time.
